Jayce came flying down the stairs, "Mom, can I go see Mr. Freddie? He's out working in his garden."
"Okay, but just for a little while, Jayce. Lunch is almost ready. And don't get in Mr. Freddie's way and please don't get your clothes dirty," his Mom called out to him.
"I won't, Mom. I promise", Jayce yelled back at his Mom as he ran out the back door.
"Hi, Mr. Freddie. What are you doing?"
"Hey Jayce, I'm just getting the soil ready to plant some vegetables. How are you doing? Are you excited about starting school on Monday?", Mr. Freddie asked.
"I'm excited but I'm also a little nervous", Jayce told Mr. Freddie. "My new school is a lot bigger and there are a lot more kids. I'm a little scared", he confessed.
Mr. Freddie stopped pulling the weeds and looked at Jayce.
"You know, Jayce I get nervous and scared sometimes too when I have to do something new."
"You do, Mr. Freddie? But you're OLD, Mr. Freddie", Jayce asked looking confused. "I mean, you're not a kid like me, so why would you be scared?", asked the young boy.
Mr. Freddie chuckled, "Well, Son, everyone gets a little nervous when they have to do something they've never done before. Do you want to know what I do so I'm not as scared?" Jayce nodded his head.
"Well, first I close my eyes and I picture a big, blue balloon. Blue is my favorite color," Mr. Freddie explained. "Mine too", yelled Jayce.
"And then I take deep breaths, in and out, and in and out. Not too fast because we don't want the balloon to pop", he winked at Jayce. "Then once the balloon is blown up, you release it and watch it fly away and take whatever is bothering you."
After careful thought Jayce said, "I can do that. That's pretty easy."
